Odisha Revenue assistant caught by Vigilance while taking Rs 10k bribe

The officials of the Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Heblet Barla, Senior Revenue Assistant-cum-Record Keeper of Muribahal Tehasil in Bolangir district while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a person in a land mutation case.

As per official sources, Barla had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant for issuance of ROR (Land Patta) in his favour in the mutation case.

The complainant had been requesting the accused to process his mutation case for long as the case was registered in the year 2019. Instead of processing the request, Barla was allegedly refusing to do the work and demanded a bribe of Rs.20,000 to do the same.

After the complainant approached the Vigilance officials, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested while accepting Rs.10,000 as 1st instalment today. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from the exclusive possession of Barla and seized, Vigilance officials said in a statement.

Meanwhile, simultaneous searches are being carried out at two locations linked to Barla.
