Along with other states, Odisha is also witnessing a surge in the daily Covid-19 cases for the past some days. As many as 489 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the state in the last 24 hours, informed the health department officials on Saturday.

With the detection of 489 fresh cases of Covid-19 infections, the total active case tally in Odisha has now reached 2697. Official sources informed that 203 Covid-19 positive patients recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours.

Earlier, the state reported 387 new cases on Thursday and 431 Covid-19 infections were detected on Friday.

Similarly, Odisha Health Director Niranjan Mishra had earlier said, “Going by the data of GOI, there is a surge in Covid-19 cases, but there has been no report of exponential growth. There is only a slight growth in the number of cases.”

“So, it is hard to predict or say anything about the growing cases or when the cases will come down. But, I can say that the hospitalisation and death rates have drastically reduced this time,” he added.

Meanwhile, 12,193 fresh Covid-19 cases were also reported in India in a span of 24 hours, the health ministry said today. India's Active caseload currently stands at 67,556.
