Odisha continues to witness a surge in daily Covid-19 infections with the State reporting 387 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

With this, the total number of active cases in the State breached 2000-mark and reached 2,177.

According to sources, 185 patients also recuperated from the infection in the last 24 hours

Meanwhile, India witnessed a 20 percent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours as 12,591 new cases were reported in a day. It is the highest in around eight months. As per the Union Health Ministry data, the active case burden increased to 65,286 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the death toll has increased to 5,31,230 with 40 new fatalities.

As per medical experts, Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 could be driving the surge in Covid cases. As many as 10,827 patients have recuperated from the infection in the last 24 hours.

Health experts have urged people not to panic as the recovery rate in the country is around 99 percent. However, they have requested people to take all kinds of precautions to reduce their chances of being infected or spreading the infection to other people.
