Members of Odisha non-government lecturer & employees association scuffled with the police while trying to break the cordon around the Legislative Assembly.

As per reports, hundreds of protesters demanding government grant marched toward the Assembly and tried to jump the police cordon. A scuffle erupted when the police obstructed their advances.

Speaking about their demands, a member of the private lecturers' association said, “We have followed Gandhiji’s Ahimsa (Non-violence) till now and did not get any result. We will shun non-violence and take our protest to the next level, though in a democratic way.”

“If the government does not sanction grant for lecturers from 2008-2018 today itself, then we will launch a hunger strike from tomorrow at the same place. We will launch cease-work strike from day after tomorrow too,” he said.

“More than 5500 lecturers and employees of 344 private colleges will start cease-work and paralyse the education system if our demands are not met,” he asserted.
