A youth named Akash Kumar Mishra from Ashrama Balikuda village under Marshaghai police limits has alleged that he was subjected to third-degree torture by the Inspector-In-Charge of Marshaghai police station.

As per reports, Akash was summoned to the police station after his wife filed a complaint against Akash over a domestic dispute.

Akash alleged the police began thrashing him once he reached the police station to face the questions.

“The police kept me in the police station and thrashed me the whole day. My family was there, but the police officer did not care and continued to thrash me inside the police station,” alleged Akash.

Sources said, after the alleged thrashing, Akash was admitted to Marshaghai Hospital from where he was shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

However, the IIC denied the allegations of third degree torture. Speaking to OTV over phone, IIC Jyotiranjan Samantray said, “The allegations are baseless. Even the SCB hospital authorities where he is being treated now have denied any injuries to his body.”

"If he was so brutally beaten here, then how come the SCB hospital discharged him immediately after admission? The hospital report also stated no injuries to him,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the IIC was accused of similar act in the past too. A man named Manoranjan Dalai had alleged that Samantray had beaten him with a PVC pipe. Later, Dalai had complained about the same with the district SP.
