Congress leader and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati was seen dancing at a cultural event in Jeypore on Friday.

Known for his social involvement and people-friendly nature, Bahinipati joined the dandiya night on the occasion of Navratri and did not forget to amuse the spectators with his dance moves.

The dandiya night was organised by Rangamati Organisation in Koraput’s Jeypore to celebrate the sixth day of the nine-day Navratri festival.

Addressing the gathering at the function, Bahinipati said, “I am very happy to see that ladies and girls irrespective of their political affiliations have joined the dandiya night. I thank them on behalf of the entire Jeypore town.”

“It is heartwarming to see that the ladies of Jeypore are no less singers and dancers than any other part of India,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that though dandiya is a predominantly north-Indian and particularly Gujarati dance, people in Odisha have also begun to accept it and perform it with full zest, thanks to its melodious music, mesmerising yet simple moves and association with Durga Puja.

While the dance is performed across the year on almost every occasion in Gujarat, it is limited to only Durga puja in Odisha.
