Prayaskanti Samal, the son of former Odisha minister and BJD MLA Prafulla Samal, has stepped down as president of the Barapada School of Engineering and Technology (BSET) society.

The report of Prayaskanti stepping down comes days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted searches at 10 locations in Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar in connection with the alleged engineering college land scam case.
Both Prayaskanti and his father Prafulla Samal were quizzed by the ED officials.

The raids were made in connection with alleged financial irregularities at Barapada Engineering College in Bhadrak. It is pertinent to mention here that there had been prior protests in Bhadrak over the same issue of financial irregularities in the college.

The protestors also demanded the resignation of Prayaskanti. Later, the district administration had clamped prohibitory orders within a 100-meter radius of the college campus.

"Recent circumstances and challenges have shown that new leadership and fresh perspectives are required to navigate the demands of the current situation. I believe that my resignation is in the best interest of the society and its members," Prayaskanti wrote in his resignation letter.
