It seems that Odisha has started taking steps for the mega and ambitious metro rail project. As per official sources, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been roped in to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) in this regard.

A ‘master plan’ will also be prepared for the metro network covering areas of Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Cuttack, and Puri. Even though it will be a herculean task to prepare the DPR in a short span of time, the authorities have taken it as a challenge keeping in mind the benchmarks of best METRO systems globally.

In the first phase, the DPR will be prepared for the route from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Trishulia. The metro rail project will cover areas like Master Canteen, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Patia, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan to Trishulia.

The entire metro rail project will be taken up under the supervision of Odisha Rail Infrastructure Development Ltd (ORIDL - a joint venture of the Government of Odisha and the Ministry of Railways). The decisions were taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) vice-chairman, Balwant Singh.

A detailed presentation was made on several aspects including metro alignment, the prudent need for multi-agency integration, and others.
