Odisha man on way to buy birthday cake for daughter run over by speeding truck
What was meant to be a day of joy and celebration turned into a day of deep sorrow for a family in Mangalpur village, Balasore district, after a tragic road accident claimed the life of a father who had gone to buy a birthday cake for his daughter.
According to sources, Umakanta Padhi, a resident of Mangalpur, had gone to Soro Bazaar on Monday evening to purchase a cake for his young daughter’s birthday celebrations. However, while returning home, tragedy struck. A speeding truck reportedly hit him midway, leaving him critically injured. Padhi succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Local residents immediately informed the police, who rushed to the scene and took custody of the body. The remains have been sent to Soro Community Health Centre for a post-mortem examination.
Witnesses described the incident as shocking and said that the busy market road, often crowded in the evenings, has long been a danger zone due to reckless driving and a lack of proper traffic management.
What was supposed to be a joyful occasion for the Padhi family has now turned into unimaginable grief. The entire village of Mangalpur is mourning the sudden and untimely death of Umakanta, remembering him as a loving father and a respected member of the community.
Authorities have assured that the accident will be thoroughly investigated, and efforts will be made to ensure stricter traffic monitoring in the area to prevent such tragedies in the future.
