A team of Odisha Vigilance continuing searches at several places linked to CT & GST Officer (Enforcement Unit) of Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district, Chittaranjan Mohanty, unearthed huge amount of gold and cash on Wednesday.

As per reports two bank lockers of Mohanty and his wife at Bank of Maharashtra and Punjab and Sindh Bank at CDA, Cuttack were traced and searched by the vigilance team.

The recoveries from the lockers were Gold jewellery weighing 1.060 Kg including 19 gold biscuits of 24 carat weighing 433 gms (market price of 19 gold biscuits about Rs.26 Lakhs)

Total gold weighing 1.135 Kg worth Rs 64 Lakh was unearthed during searches, informed Vigilance officials.

Rs 6.59 Lakh cash was also recovered which included cash found from locker (Rs 5.4 Lakh) and Rs 1 Lakh from the office of Mohanty.

It is worthwhile to mention that Mohanty was trapped and arrested by Odisha Vigilance on March 31 for accepting bribe Rs 80,000 from a complainant to furnish closure report of a CT&GST case.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS case No.4 dt.30.3.23 U/s-7PC (Amendment)Act, 2018 was registered and the case is under investigation. Mohanty has been remanded to jail custody till April 13.
