The Odisha government has launched an extensive drive to reclaim the vast land properties of Lord Jagannath, spread not only across the state but also in different parts of the country.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Thursday said that Lord Jagannath is the legal owner of nearly 58,000 acres of land. Of this, records for around 36,000 to 37,000 acres have already been verified and prepared while the process of finalising documents for the remaining land parcels is currently underway.

“The government is working at a fast pace to ensure all of Lord Jagannath’s properties are properly recorded and reclaimed,” Harichandan said. He stressed that the administration is committed to protecting these assets and preventing encroachment or misuse.

According to officials, the reclaimed lands will be brought under structured management and utilized for the service and welfare of the Jagannath Temple in Puri and other related religious and cultural activities. Special emphasis will be given to ensuring that the revenue generated from these assets directly benefits the temple and its devotees.
