The Odisha government on Monday announced a hike in the monthly remuneration of Urdu teachers engaged in upper primary and Middle English schools, fully aided and newly aided high schools.

As per the announcement, the Urdu teachers will get Rs 15,000 per month instead of Rs 7,400.   

As per reports, over 10,000 students have taken Urdu as their first language in upper primary, Middle English, full-aided, and newly-aided high schools in the state. Hence, the government has engaged Urdu and Urdu resource teachers on a contractual basis to impart Urdu teaching.

The hike in the salaries will benefit 44 Urdu teachers working in upper primary, Middle English, and high schools and 40 Urdu teachers in fully aided and newly aided high schools.

Urdu teachers had earlier drawn the attention of the state government demanding a hike in their monthly salary.
