Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi came down heavily on the state government over the issue of the Women Empowerment. Addressing a Mahila Samavesh rally held at Balipatana playground on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the MP alleged that the Odisha government has failed to ensure work and income generation for women of the self-help groups(SHGs) despite ruling the state for over 23 years.

Targeting the Biju Janata Dal(BJD), Sarangi said, “Just forming SHGs will not serve any purpose. They should be provided work. For the last 23 years, the government is run by a party which has done nothing for them.”

“There are allegations that women are being tortured in Odisha,” she observed.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the programme, Sarangi said, “We will provide work to all women in a few years.  At the Samavesh, when I asked women about their work, over 10,000 women raised their hands indicating that they have been deprived of work.”

The MP asserted that the Central government on the other hand is committed to ensure the social security of women and strengthening their financial conditions.
