Farmers in Odisha affected by recent unseasonal rainfall have been given two extra days to complete their registration process for compensation claims.

The deadline for registration has been extended until midnight on January 1, informed Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Monday.

Deputy CM Parida announced the extension of the period for the registration process during her visit to the affected regions in Konark, where she met with local farmers and surveyed the extent of the crop damage inflicted by the unseasonal rain. This comes as part of the government’s ongoing support efforts to assist those sustaining agricultural losses due to the unseasonal heavy rainfall.

The affected farmers can report their losses using the Krishi Rakshak App or by calling the toll-free number 14447. While some have raised concerns about occasional connectivity problems when using the phone service, Deputy CM Parida reassured that missed calls will still be recorded as successful registrations.

“The Union government has extended the dates of registration only for Odisha. The affected farmers can do the registration till midnight on January 1. Missed calls will still be recorded as successful registrations. Those who are aware of the registration must help others in the process. Our government is committed to the welfare of the farmers in the State,” said Deputy CM Parida.

As per sources, the extension aims to ensure that all impacted cultivators have the opportunity to seek the necessary assistance. The measure underscores the State government’s commitment to rural welfare and agricultural resilience in the face of climate challenges.
