Odisha govt expedites process for establishment of 20 new NACs

Odisha government has taken a significant step towards enhancing urban development by planning the establishment of 20 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) in the State.

As per sources, this initiative comes as part of a broader strategy to increase urban areas to encompass 30 per cent of the state, up from the current 17 per cent.

Fast-tracking Formation Process

As per reports, the Department of Housing and Urban Development has accelerated the process for creating these new NACs by gathering necessary reports from various districts.

These reports have been forwarded to the Panchayati Raj Department for comprehensive evaluation. Following this evaluation, further steps involve obtaining the approval of the Chief Minister.

Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Patra affirmed that so far, reports have been received for the formation of 20 NACs. He also highlighted the expedited efforts to bolster urban areas.

Catalysing Urban Growth

Earlier, district collectors were tasked with completing specific procedural forms and submitting expansion reports for the proposed NACs. This ongoing developmental stride aims to transform the pace and scope of urbanisation across Odisha.

As per sources, such initiatives are designed to ensure a systematic and organised expansion of urban areas, contributing to more effective governance and enhanced civic amenities for residents.

"The department reviewed the demand of the people to form new NACs and sought feasibility reports from the district collectors. We have received around 20 feasibility reports and those have been forwarded to the Panchayati Raj Department for comprehensive evaluation. Our government is mulling to increase urban areas in the state to 30 per cent," said Minister Patra.
