You might have come across the tall claims of the Odisha government of providing better and free health services. But it seems that the ambulance or Mahaprayan free hearse scheme has failed to come to the rescue of a family as they were forced to carry the dead body of their loved ones for 5 km in a trolley. Such a shocking incident has been reported from Soro in Balasore district.

As per reports, the family members of Mamata Singh of Chapulia village under Dahisada panchayat had rushed her to the Soro hospital after her health condition deteriorated. However, Mamata subsequently died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Later, the family members contacted the government ambulance, but the official said that dead body could not be carried in it.

When the family members contacted a private ambulance, they were asked to pay Rs 1500 for availing the service. As the financial condition of Mamata’s family was not good, they could not avail the service to carry her body back home.

With no other option, the family members then decided to carry Mamata’s body in their trolley back home from the hospital which was at a distance of 5 km at around 10 pm.

The district administration or health officials could not be contacted over the matter.
