Bringing serious allegations against the newly-appointed Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Congress said that he has broken protocol by meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence.

Congress leader and former minister Panchanan Kanungo asked what business did the Governor have at Naveen Niwas? What message did he deliver to Patnaik immediately after meeting the Prime Minister in New Delhi?

“Democracy is in danger in Odisha. There is nothing called protocol in the State. Forget about Governor, even the Union Home Minister does not follow protocol when meeting the then 5T secretary secretly,” Kanungo said.

“I do not say this is a serious breach of protocol. If the CM is unwell, the Governor can go meet him. But was that the case? The Governor’s office should clarify that,” Kanungo said.

While no official communique was received from the Raj Bhavan on the allegations, the Governor earlier tweeted on X: “A formal meeting was held today with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Chief Minister's residence. I wish him a happy Diwali, a healthy and long life. During this time, a detailed positive discussion was held with him on various issues.”
