Odisha farmers to visit Malaysia to study advanced agricultural techniques

A pioneering initiative by the Odisha State Government will see a delegation of 14 farmers visiting Malaysia to study advanced agricultural techniques. This programme, supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the World Bank, will also include 14 agricultural officers accompanying the farmers to gain insights into contemporary farming.

Learning from Malaysia

During the eight-day educational visit, the farmers will explore modern agricultural practices, focusing on climate-resilient methods and agricultural industries in Malaysia. The tour will cover visits to agricultural research centres and specialised training in mushroom production. This experience aims to equip Odisha farmers with new skills and knowledge that can be implemented to improve practices back home.

On their return, these farmers will share their learnings with their communities, disseminating knowledge about innovative Malaysian methods to potentially boost agricultural productivity and farmers' income in Odisha. The initiative, announced by the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, K.V. Singh Deo, exemplifies the government's commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape in Odisha.

“At least 14 farmers are being sent to Malaysia where they will learn the new cropping pattern. They will gain knowledge on both agriculture and horticulture processes done there using modern technology. Later, we will try to start the same processes in Odisha,” informed Deputy CM KV Singh Deo.

“We are keen to learn new techniques on mushroom farming, grading and packaging of fruits, climate growth using greenhouse and poly house, and understand other farming issues in Malaysia. Later, we will try to implement the same in Odisha that will bring profits for the farmers. Hopefully, this initiative will go a long way in helping the farmers,” said a local farmer Ajit Kumar Biswal.
