The Odisha Commerce and Transport Department has extended the deadline for fitment of Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) and panic buttons in the vehicles by three months.

Earlier, the dateline to comply with the requirement of the fitment vehicle location tracking device and panic buttons in the vehicles registered on or after 1.01.2023 was 31.12.2022 and for other vehicles, it was notified as 31.03.2023.

As per the latest notification issued by the state transport department, the dateline for applicability of VLTD has been revised after reviewing the available infrastructure in the state.

Revised Timeline

The specified vehicles registered on or after 01.04.2023 shall have to comply with the requirement at the time of registration.

The specified vehicles registered on or before 31.03.2023 shall have to comply with the requirement by 30.06.2023.

Earlier, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had made fitment of Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) device and panic buttons mandatory for certain type of vehicles.

As per reports, all the commercial vehicles (with yellow registration number plates) including passenger buses, mini-buses, school buses and cabs/taxis will compulsorily be equipped with the VLT gadgets. Subsequently, the Odisha government had also issued necessary notification regarding fitment of the VLT devices.
