The Odisha Government extended the deadline for completing the electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process for beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act, on Sunday. The new deadline is set for January 31, allowing additional time for compliance.
Originally scheduled to end on January 15, the extension aims to ensure ease as well as accessibility for beneficiaries.
According to the Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, only 85 per cent of eligible individuals have already fulfilled their e-KYC requirements.
However, there remain over 50 lakh beneficiaries who are yet to begin this essential step.
Citizens receiving aid under the food security scheme are encouraged to complete their e-KYC at their local Electronic Public Service (EPS) outlets or ration distribution centres.
The government urges beneficiaries to swiftly comply with the requirements to continue uninterrupted access to services.
New ration cards will be issued thereafter to all eligible Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries, who have either applied beforehand or who will apply in the future.
Government officials have been instructed to assist with e-KYC procedures both within the State and for Odia residents presently living elsewhere in the country.
“Some labourers from Goa informed the Department over the phone and we sent a team of officials to the State to help register the applicants,” the Minister had earlier said.
“In case some individuals are left out in any other State, they can inform us over the phone; so that, we will send our officials to assist them in hassle-free e-KYC registration,” the Minister had added.
