Odisha has strengthened its medical education sector with the establishment of new colleges and the appointment of additional faculty members across the state.

In 2025, two new institutions, the Government Medical College & Hospital at Phulbani in Kandhamal district and the Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College & Hospital at Talcher in Angul district, began operations. With this, the state now has 14 government-run medical colleges.

To boost teaching and clinical services, the Odisha government has inducted 91 Assistant Professors in 23 broad speciality subjects and 7 Assistant Professors in 6 super-speciality disciplines. These postings cover key medical hubs such as SCB Medical College, Cuttack, MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, and PGIMER, Bhubaneswar.

Further strengthening the academic cadre, 38 Professors and 27 Associate Professors have been promoted through departmental processes. The Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack, has also seen the addition of 10 super-specialist Assistant Professors.
