At a time when the drivers’ association is all set to go on an indefinite strike across the state from March 15 to press for their 10-point charter of demands, the Commissionerate Police has taken a strong stance to prevent any untoward incidents in Bhubaneswar.

Briefing journalists about the steps the Commissionerate Police is going to take for the safety of Bhubaneswar people, Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said, “Tomorrow, the movement of public transport, auto-rickshaw and taxi will be normal. If anyone protests against it or tries to object to it, we will definitely take action against them. Our prime aim will be to ensure the safety of passengers. If any person faces any difficulties, we would like to request them to dial 112. Police will respond immediately to help them out.”

“We would also like to request the agitators not to cause any inconvenience to people,” he added.

At the same time, Minister of Commerce and Transport Tukuni Sahu assured the drivers of all possible help.

“We have a positive approach towards the drivers who have called a strike from tomorrow. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will definitely take their case positively. After two years, students are appearing for Matric examinations, without any fear of Covid. I would like to request the drivers not to cause any problems to students and people who will be out on an emergency. We will form a high-level committee to consider their demands and take a favorable step,” said Minister Sahu.
