Kudos to a team of doctors of the cardiothoracic department at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack! They successfully removed a branch of a tree that had pierced through the body of a patient from Mayurbhanj on Tuesday.

As per reports, Subash Marandi, a resident of Baidakhadi village under Udala police limits, was plucking flowers from a tree. As ill luck would have it, Marandi fell off the tree and a branch got through his body. His condition was critical.

He was immediately rushed to the PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.

A team of doctors of the cardiothoracic department along with other doctors operated on him and the branch was removed. The condition of the patient was stated to be stable after removal of the tree branch.

Dr Manoj Pattnaik, head of the cardiothoracic department, at SCB Medical College and Hospital, said, "The doctors of anaesthesia played a key role. The patient was unable to be in a sleeping state.  Administering anaesthesia was a challenge. They gave it in a new technique. Various organs – liver, lungs, and kidneys of the youth were affected after the tree branch got pierced into the body. Surgeons of these departments apart from urology and general surgery were present.  It was the teamwork that gave us success.”
