In a shocking incident, a dentist was arrested for allegedly running a drug smuggling and peddling racket in Jajpur. Apart from the dentist, the two other accused have been arrested and identified as Sandip Kumar Mallick of Sundarimuhan and Ratnakar Dixit of Siddheswar.

The accused dentist has been identified as Dr Nigmananada Khatua, who is running a clinic in Mahaveer Vihar in Jajpur town. 

Confirming the arrest, Jajpur SDPO Satyabrata Lenka said that 25 gm of brown sugar was seized from the two pedlers during a raid last evening. The dentist’s illegal drug dealing came to the fore after the arrest of the two peddlers.

As per reports, acting on a tip-off, Town Police conducted a raid near the Administrative Bhawan on Wednesday evening. Two brown sugar peddlers were arrested and 25.02 grams of brown sugar was seized from their possession. As they were interrogated, the two revealed that Dr Nigamanada was supplying the banned substance to them. Then, police arrested the doctor, and the three were produced in court.

Speaking to the media, SDPO Satyabrata Lenka said, “During the raid last evening, two persons were arrested with 25.02 grams of brown sugar. On being interrogated, the two said they were procuring the banned substance from the doctor. In fact, the doctor was running a racket by smuggling drugs in large quantities from outside and peddling it in small quantities through the two peddlers.”

The SDPO said that police have been keeping a strict vigil on drug peddling and will arrest the people involved in such illegal activities.
