In a heartbreaking turn of events, a couple from Nayagarh district lost their lives in a road accident while on their way home after learning about the death of the man’s father. The double tragedy has cast a pall of sorrow over the entire region.

The incident occurred near Nuapada on the National Highway 57 that connects Boudh, Khordha, and Balangir.

According to reports, the couple’s car rammed into a stationary truck parked along the roadside. The impact was so severe that both occupants, Raj Kishore Sahu and his wife Minakshi Sahu, died on the spot.

The couple, residents of Gania area in Nayagarh, was reportedly travelling from Nuapada in Kalahandi district, where Raj Kishore worked, back to their native village after receiving the devastating news of his father’s death. Sadly, fate had even more sorrow in store.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck was parked on the highway. The accident took place when the car, attempting to overtake another vehicle, failed to notice the stationary truck in time and crashed directly into it.

The community in Gania and Nuapada is in shock, grieving the loss of not just a father, but also the son and daughter-in-law who were en route to perform his final rites. What was to be a journey home to mourn has turned into a story of three lives lost, one after another.

Local police have registered a case and are investigating the case to find out the reason that led to this tragic accident.
