A model police station in Odisha’s Subarnapur district turned into a marriage mandap with the cops manning the station playing matchmakers and solemnising the marriage of a young couple.

Sushil Kumar Sahu, a native of Goudgad village, tied the nuptial knot with his ladylove Lipsa Sahu of Mursundhi village on the premises of Birmaharajpur Model Police Station in the western Odisha district.

As per sources, the couple, who had been in a relationship for the last five years, approached the police station and sought the intervention of the officials following opposition from their families.

“We have been in a relationship for the last five years, but our family members opposed our relationship. Therefore, we approached the police station. The police officers called our families and solemnised our marriage,” said Lipsa Sahu.

“Despite our relationship of five years, her (Lipsa’s) family members fixed her marriage elsewhere. Later, we decided to get married and sought the help of the police. The police officers called our family members and solemnised our marriage at the police station,” said Sushil Kumar Sahu.

Padmasini Meher, officer-in-charge of Birmaharajpur police station, said, “Lipsa Sahu of Mursundhi and Sushil Kumar Sahu of Goudgad had been in a relationship for the past five years. However, there were differences between the two families and the girl’s marriage was fixed elsewhere. The couple approached us and sought help. We convened the families and convinced them to go ahead with the marriage.”

“The marriage was solemnised peacefully and both the families are now happy. Some known figures from Birmaharajpur also graced the occasion and blessed the couple,” she added.
