Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday ordered immediate steps to withdraw petty cases pending against the people of tribal communities in Odisha.
 
As per reports, about 48,018 cases pertaining to the Home, Excise, and Forest and Environment departments are pending against the tribal people. 

Following an instruction from the Chief Minister, the Home, Excise, and Forest and Environment departments had reviewed these cases.

A press release from the CMO said that a decision was taken to withdraw these cases. 
According to the CMO, 36,581 cases are under the Excise Department; 9,846 cases are under Home Department and 1,591 cases are under the Forest and Environment Department. A decision was taken to withdraw these cases.

With this decision, the burden on courts and legal mechanism will be reduced, it was stated.
