Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi
Taking the stage to address the gathering during the release of the second instalment of Subhadra Yojana on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi aimed gun at ex-CM Naveen Patnaik and BJD government over women’s welfare in the state.
In his speech, CM Majhi stated that the former BJD government failed to empower women in the state and its leaders only ended up giving speeches for 24 years. He also highlighted that his government, however, turned its commitment into reality with the release of the second instalment of the Subhadra Yojana funds to over one crore beneficiaries in the state.
“For 24 years, we kept hearing speeches about women’s empowerment, which was just a slogan for amassing a vote bank. Before elections, they make promises once in five years and then forget about it,” said the CM.
In the same address, Mohan Majhi also took digs at the Congress by labelling the party as a ‘critic’ of his government who have tied black bands in protest despite the massive progress being made in women’s empowerment in Odisha.
Other shots at the opposition also included claims of them needing a ‘digestive pill’ to accept the success of the current NJP government in Odisha.
Along with the release of funds for the second instalment of the Subhadra Yojana, the CM also launched a statewide app for women’s safety, named ‘Shakti App’ and also introduced Odisha’s Strategic Action Plan to prevent child marriages.
