Akshaya Tritiya, a festival synonymous with prosperity and good fortune, is being observed across Odisha today. Considered one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar, it is on this day that both the Sun and the Moon are believed to be in their most favourable positions.

It is an opportune moment for commencing new ventures and making significant purchases.

New Beginnings

Akshaya Tritiya is traditionally considered an ideal time for housewarming ceremonies, the acquisition of new vehicles, and purchasing gold jewellery. It is a day when individuals are motivated to start fresh ventures, buoyed by the promise of success and growth.

Agricultural Rituals

For farmers, Akshaya Tritiya heralds the onset of a fruitful season. In various regions, they rise during the early morning to begin their agricultural activities, performing rituals that include sowing seeds and ploughing fields. These actions serve as offerings to Mother Earth and the goddess of agriculture, Bhudevi.

Farmers across India frequently utilise this day to inaugurate the agricultural season via ceremonial sowing, known as 'Akhi Muthi Anukula'. This ritual, steeped in cultural tradition, is believed to herald a bountiful harvest. Farmers often plant fresh paddy seeds, seeking blessings from Mother Earth and Goddess Bhumi.

Celebrations in Odisha

In Bhubaneswar, a state-level farmers' gathering is underway at the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) farm. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi participated in the ritual sowing ceremony. CM Mohan Majhi participated in the special programme organised by the Department of Agriculture at the OUAT farm in Bhubaneswar and performed the ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ ritual. Bhumi pujan ritual was also performed during the programme.

Meanwhile, in Berhampur, Governor Haribabu Kambhampati will partake in the ceremonial 'Akhi Muthi Anukula' event.
