On the eve of completing a year in office, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi hinted at a possible cabinet expansion during an exclusive interview with OTV. With six ministerial posts vacant, political buzz is growing over a major expansion.

According to sources, the Chief Minister hinted at an imminent cabinet expansion, marking a potential first reshuffle of his government as it reaches its one-year anniversary. In the exclusive interview, CM Majhi stated that a decision will be taken soon to fill the six vacant ministerial berths.

Ministers' performance report cards sought

Sources suggest the CM has sought a detailed report card from all ministers as part of a performance review process. Based on this evaluation, a few key decisions—including departmental reshuffling and induction of new ministers—are expected.

Discussions have already started in the political corridors over who might make the cut and who could be dropped.

Currently, the CM is handling at least six crucial departments himself, including General Administration, Finance, Home, Water Resources, Planning & Coordination, and Information & Public Relations. These portfolios are expected to be reassigned once the new ministers are inducted.

There is also speculation about which new faces might join the cabinet. Names of several MLAs, such as Babu Singh from Bhubaneswar, Manas Dutta and Sanatan Bijuli from Balasore, Jayanarayan Mishra and Irasis Acharya from Western Odisha, Amar Nayak from Jajpur, and Ashrit Pattanayak from Puri (Pipili) are doing the rounds.

Moreover, it is anticipated that districts and constituencies currently lacking representation in the cabinet may get priority this time. Areas like Sundargarh and parts of Western Odisha may see increased representation.

Political observers believe the reshuffle may occur after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Odisha on June 20, where he is expected to attend the State government's anniversary celebrations.

“There are certain approvals and directives from the national leadership. Accordingly, the reshuffle will be made and will certainly be made. Changes in the ministry are likely as some of the ministers are low-performing, as per the reports that he (CM Mohan Majhi) is in receipt of. He might take action against them,” eminent political analyst Rabi Das said.

“The self-confidence that is there within the Chief Minister astonishes me. That is why I feel he can do anything he desires,” the political analyst added.
