Odisha budget not a game-changer, but a name-changer: Naveen Patnaik

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Naveen Patnaik, BJD leader, criticized the BJP government's Odisha budget as a name-changer, not a game-changer. He claimed 80% of the schemes were from the previous BJD government.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Monday took a dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-government, terming its budget as a name-changer and not a game changer.

Patnaik said the newly-formed BJP government has adopted over 80 per cent yojanas of the previous BJD government and the rest 20 per cent is about their assurances.

“The state Bharatiya Janata Party said they have presented a game-changing budget. Instead, they have presented only a name-changing budget. As much as 80 per cent of the schemes they have presented have already been presented by our Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government,” he said.

Taking a swipe at the BJP government, he further said while Rs 1 lakh crore is required for Subhadra Yojana, the budget allocation is Rs 10,000 crore. He also said people have been waiting for free electricity since July.

Responding to Patnaik’s statement, BJP leader Tankadhar Tripathy said, “As the names of some projects and schemes given by his government have been changed, he thinks the government is a name-changer. But I want to clarify that the BJP government is both a name changer and a game changer.”

“He is speaking about ‘jumla’. Today I asked him in the House whose ‘jumlas’ were ‘PEETHA’ yojana and ‘Biju Yuva Vahini’ yojana. I presented a list of 140 yojanas. Instead of speaking about the number of ‘jumals’ from them, he left,” said Tripathy.
