Odisha Budget 2024: New scheme announced in place of BSKY

Odisha Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mohan Majhi informed that beneficiaries of the new scheme will get cashless treatment facilities at private and government hospitals.

The new BJP government in Odisha announced the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana in place of the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) as State’s own health insurance coverage scheme.

While presenting his government’s first State budget in the Odisha Assembly for the financial year 2024-25 on Thursday, Odisha Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mohan Majhi informed that beneficiaries of the new scheme will get cashless treatment facilities at private and government hospitals.

“Rs 3,056 crore allocation has been made for Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana in the budget,” said Majhi.

Moreover, it was also announced that the Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme will be implemented in the State and Rs 500 crore has been allocated for the scheme in the state budget.

For the development of health infrastructure across the State, Rs 2,462 has been allocated in the budget. Rs 1,000 crore will be provided for the redevelopment of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Chief Minister Majhi further informed that while Jajpur Medical College will start functioning in 2025, Phulbani and Talcher medical colleges will function in 2026 and 2027 respectively.

Odisha government has also launched Surendra Sai Dibyadrushti Yojna to provide free eye treatment.
