Odisha boy changes gender to become 'Rinki Didi'; now fights for women's rights
After spending almost 20-30 years of his life as a boy, he was told that he was a girl and had female hormones. Family members were shocked to see his medical reports. Despite social stigma, they decided to stand by him and supported his instincts.
Born as Ajay Barik, today she has gained her identity as Rinki Barik after gender change. Not just physically, she is now completely a woman- both mentally, physically, and psychologically.
Hailing from Namakana village under Bhandaripokhari Tehsil in Bhadrak district, Rinki was born as Ajay, the second one of three sons of Rabindra Barik. After completing his education, he was engaged in a private company in Kolkata.
Mentally affected by the atrocities on women, he slowly saw a transition in himself, turning into a woman. He narrated his ordeal to his family members who had him checked medically. To everyone’s shock, doctors confirmed that he was a female in a male’s body with female hormones.
After initial reluctance, family members finally agreed to let Ajay become Rinki. He went to Delhi where he finally gained his identity as a Rinki after surgery in a private hospital. Today, she is very happy in life and living life to the fullest.
“No parents would ever want their boy to turn into a girl. But, due to his natural characteristics and personality like a girl, we took him to a hospital for examination. Doctors confirmed that he had female hormones. So, we happily accepted her gender change. We are happy that she is her true self,” said her sister Kanchan Barik.
“Now, everyone has slowly started accepting me as a girl. People are respecting me and no one has ever bothered me. I’m Rinki Didi for all now,” said an elated Rinki.
