Odisha govt begins process to fill up 1,353 vacant teaching posts in universities

In a major development, vacant teaching posts across various universities in the State will soon be filled under the New Odisha University Amendment Act, informed Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Tuesday. A total of 1,353 teaching posts are currently lying vacant in different state-run universities.

To address the issue, Minister Suraj held a high-level meeting with the Vice Chancellors of all universities and directed them to submit detailed proposals for recruitment at the earliest. These positions will reportedly be filled following the provisions of the amended Act, streamlining the process for quicker recruitment.

What about Vacant Non-Teaching Posts?

For non-teaching posts, however, recruitment will continue to follow the existing laws, as no amendments have been made in that area yet, the Minister clarified.

The Minister also stated that the government is working closely with various public sector companies to create better employment opportunities for university students. This strategic partnership aims to improve campus placements and ensure brighter career prospects for graduates.

“As of now 1353 teaching posts are lying vacant at universities across Odisha. Besides, there are 2000 vacant non-teaching staff. The vice chancellors have been asked to submit their requirements at the earliest,” the Minister added.
