An auto-rickshaw driver in Berhampur has won accolades for returning a bag containing gold jewellery worth around Rs 7 lakh to a family that had accidentally left the baggage in his vehicle.

According to sources, family members of one Simanchal had come to Berhampur to attend an event. After reaching Berhampur Station, they hired T Simadri’s auto rickshaw to Om Bihar.  But, they accidentally left one bag in the vehicle after reaching their destination and left.

When Simadri discovered the bag, he found gold jewellery along with several other important documents mentioning address of the passengers, sources informed, adding that, without further delay, he went to the address and returned the valuables to them.

“After dropping them at their address, I went to the new bus stand. When I found the bag, I came to our union’s office and opened it in the presence of other fellow drivers. The bag contained jewellery along with the identity card of the passengers. Then I decided to return the valuables to them,” said Simadri.
