Congress Protest In Assembly
The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed yet another disruption today as opposition members staged intense protests, preventing the scheduled Question Hour from proceeding. The commotion began soon after the House convened, with Congress MLAs donning black attire as a mark of protest.
In a dramatic display, opposition members gathered near the Speaker's podium and rang cymbals, and played traditional musical instruments like ‘Sahanai’ to register their dissent. Their primary demand was the formation of a House Committee to address issues related to women’s safety in the state. The loud protests forced the Speaker initially to adjourn the House until 11:30 AM.
Even after the adjournment, Congress legislators continued their agitation outside the Odisha Assembly premises. They marched around the building, ringing cymbals as a symbolic protest against the Odisha government's alleged inaction on women’s security concerns.

“The Odisha government is trying to suppress the voice of Congress and its MLA. We are protesting it and Congress will never tolerate such attitude. We have demanded the constitution of a House Committee for ensuring women’s security so that stringent rules can be framed,” said Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
The disruption mirrored the events of the previous day when opposition members had also boycotted proceedings over the same issue.
The House was thrown into chaos, with Congress MLAs blowing whistles during Question Hour. Despite repeated warnings from the Speaker to maintain decorum and refrain from using such instruments inside the Assembly, the opposition remained defiant, leading to a complete halt in proceedings.
Today’s protests followed the same pattern, with Congress legislators once again using the same strategy to voice their dissatisfaction. The continued deadlock in the Assembly has raised concerns over the functioning of the House, with key discussions being repeatedly stalled due to the ongoing political standoff.
Responding to the allegations of Congress, BJP MLA Saroj Padhi said, “Discussion needs to be done in the House, but the opposition doesn’t want it. We do not have if they wear any kind of clothes. But the way they brought musical instruments and played in Assembly is totally unacceptable as House is very sacred.”
