Odisha Assembly Deputy Speaker election on November 21

The election to the Odisha Deputy Speaker post will be held on November 21, 2023.

“Speaker has been pleased to fix the November 21, 2023 for election of Deputy Speaker. A meeting of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will be held on November 21 at 9:30 am,” read the notice issued by the Odisha Assembly secretary on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that the post of Deputy Speaker of Odisha Assembly has been lying vacant since the resignation of Rajani Kant Singh from the post earlier this month.

On November 8, Odisha Assembly deputy speaker Rajani Kant Singh resigned from the post. In his statement, Singh informed that he would devote more time to strengthening party organisation.

The four-time MLA from Angul, Singh was also a minister during the fourth term of the BJD government from 2014 to 2019. Singh was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the 16th Odisha Assembly in April 2021.
