The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly kicked off on a stormy note on Tuesday as Opposition Congress and BJP created ruckus in the House over various issues.

As soon as the House assembled for the Business, Congress MLAs rushed near the podium and created ruckus as a mark of protest against Naba Das murder and alleged deteriorating law and order situation during the address of Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal.

Similarly, BJP MLAs boycotted the address of the Governor and staged a walkout. Later, the legislators staged a dharna at the entrance of the House.

“The deteriorating law and order situation in the State has emerged as a major concern. Even the health care facilities are lying in dilapidated condition. We have opposed Governor’s address and staged a walkout as a mark of protest against the killing of cabinet minister Naba Das,” said Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi.

Slamming the BJD government over the law and order situation, senior Congress leader and MLA Sura Routray said, “When the government cannot provide security to a cabinet minister, what about the common people? The law and order situation in the State has collapsed completely.”

Notably, the Budget session of Odisha Assembly which began today will continue till April 6.

As per the schedule issued by the Assembly secretariat, State Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will present the annual Budget for the year 2023-24 on February 24 while general discussion on the Budget will start on February 27. The appropriation bill will be laid before the House on March 31.
