Odisha approves Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, over 2.25 lakh houses for beneficiaries

The Odisha government has approved the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana that aims at providing pucca house to the eligible household left out from the ongoing housing scheme, victim of natural/man-made calamities, household displaced due to development project, differently-abled person who is the main earning member of the family and FRA beneficiaries and those who qualify for but have not yet benefited from prior housing schemes.

Under Antyodaya Gruha yojana incentive is paid to beneficiaries of any rural housing scheme for early completion of house.

Eligible families will receive financial assistance amounting to Rs 1.2 lakh for constructing a 25 square metre house, excluding the area identified for toilets. Over the next three years, the plan is to construct at least 225,000 new homes. This effort complements existing programmes such as the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme (Rural), the Prime Minister's Tribal Justice Campaign (PM-JANMAN), among others.

Incentives for Swift Construction

Beneficiaries completing their home construction within four to six months after receiving their first payment will qualify for additional incentives of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.

Defining Permanent Housing

The description of a permanent house under this initiative will solely include structures with RCC (reinforced cement concrete) roofs and cement walls and structures with asbestos, tin, or tiled roofs. For the scheme's purposes, a household is defined to include a husband, wife, dependent parents, and children. This redefined household eligibility aims to assist newly formed families in availing the scheme.

A substantial budget of Rs 7,550 crore has been allocated to ensure the successful implementation of this scheme.
