Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced ex-gratia for the victims of the Bahanaga train tragedy. The deadliest crash involving three trains so far claimed the lives of as many as 288 people. 

The next of the kin of the deceased will get assistance of Rs 5 lakh and those who sustained serious injuries will get Rs 1 lakh as assistance. The assistance will be given from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), stated a release issued by the CMO. 

The Chief Minister has also conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery of the injured.

A day back, PM Modi had announced ex-gratia for the kin of the deceased.

“An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased in the train mishap in Odisha. The injured would be given Rs 50,000,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Similarly, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to Twitter and shared that the kin of the deceased would get a compensation of Rs 10 lakh, those with grievous injuries Rs 2 lakh and Rs 50,000 for those who suffered minor injuries.

“Ex-gratia compensation to the victims of this unfortunate train accident in Odisha; Rs 10 lakh in case of death, Rs 2 lakh towards grievous and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries,” he tweeted.
