Odisha govt announces 2000 new jobs to boost traffic management and road safety

The Government of Odisha has launched an ambitious plan to enhance traffic regulation and road safety, approving 2,000 new roles in its Traffic and Road Safety wing.

In an effort to enhance road safety, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has announced the approval of 2,000 new positions within the wing. This initiative is anticipated to strengthen the state’s capabilities in managing its traffic resources, tackle traffic congestion and improve public safety.

Strengthening Infrastructure Through New Roles: 

The CM disclosed that the state-level will see the creation of 70 positions, while 1,930 roles will be established at the district level. This targeted approach ensures a widespread strengthening of Odisha’s traffic safety network.

At the state-level, the administration will introduce pivotal positions such as an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) or Inspector General of Police (IGP), a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), two Superintendents of Police (SP), four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP), six Inspectors, eight Sub-Inspectors (SI), eight Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), 22 Constables, and 10 Drivers and other essential support staff.

Administrative support roles, including an Establishment Officer, a Section Officer, three Assistant Section Officers, and three Junior Assistants, have also been introduced.

“Creating these posts will significantly reinforce Odisha’s traffic management system and set a benchmark in road safety,” stated the Chief Minister.

Unveiling Vision At District-Level

On the district level, 1,930 posts have been given the green light, comprising five Deputy Superintendents (DSP), 41 Inspectors, 83 Sub-Inspectors, 83 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 310 Havildars, and 1,408 Constables.

The move is aimed at bolstering personnel numbers to ensure a more robust and efficient traffic management and road safety system throughout Odisha, positioning it as a national leader in this domain.

Expressing optimism, Chief Minister Majhi emphasised these developments as a progressive move towards making Odisha a pioneer in traffic management and road safety.
