Odia scientist Subodh Kumar Nayak on Thursday took charge as the Director of Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Balasore’s Chandipur.

Nayak was appointed on January 19 by the DRDO Chandipur.

Born in the Sambalpur district, Nayak completed his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla. He completed his M.Tech degree from IIT-Mumbai in aerospace engineering.

Nayak joined as a research scientist in the DRDO-Pune in September 1994 after completing his Fellowship at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT)-Pune. Following this, he proved his excellence on several projects in different capacities and posts.

The Proof & Experimental Establishment is situated on the coast of Bay of Bengal at Chandipur, in Odisha, at a distance of 15 km from Balasore city. It is the oldest establishment of DRDO. The first firing activity took place on November 7, 1895.

Chandipur sea beach provides an ideal location for a proof range. It has a crescent-shaped coastline running towards South-West, which facilitates firing into the sea without affecting human habitation, but the trajectory is never very far from the coast to make an observation of projectile behaviour difficult.
