Odia girl from rural Odisha becomes licenced commercial pilot, shares her inspiring journey
Sonalika Mishra, a young woman from Narasinghpur in Odisha, has earned her Commercial Pilot Licence, bringing pride to her family and community.
She successfully cleared all examinations conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and completed 200 hours of flight training, fulfilling all necessary criteria for obtaining the licence.
Her achievement has sparked a wave of celebration in her family as Sonalika becomes a symbol of determination and success from rural Odisha.
Speaking about her accomplishment, Sonalika Mishra said, “I can operate across India as a commercial pilot, as well as fly international routes. I would say all of my success was made possible by my parents, especially, my grandparents, because it is due to them that I could realise my dream of becoming a pilot. I am also grateful to the Almighty for His grace.”
“I had to dedicate a full three years to achieve this dream. From preparing to clearing my exams in the first year to completing 200 hours of flying training over the next two years, it took me three years in total to succeed. If a girl like me, from a village, can become a pilot, anyone can become a pilot,” she added.
Her father, Nimalendu Mishra, expressed immense pride and joy at his daughter’s milestone. “We are extremely proud of her achievement. The blessings of my deceased parents helped her achieve the dream. Operation Sindoor was a shining example of what women are capable of achieving. I am indeed very happy and I pray that my daughter achieves even more success and recognition,” he said.
Sonalika’s journey stands as an inspiring testament for many young girls across rural India, proving that dreams can indeed take flight, regardless of one’s origins.
