An Odia jawan of Border Security Force (BSF), posted in Meghalaya, reportedly died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday.

The deceased jawan has been identified as Pratap Ranjan Parida, a resident of Malla village of Badatara Panchayat under Gop block in Puri district.

The family members of Parida were informed about his death by the BSF officials. They were told that Parida was heading towards a ghat from Sura camp when he fell into a roadside ditch.

While the reason of Parida’s death is still a mystery, a pall of gloom descended on the village as the news broke.

The deceased jawan’s elder brother is working with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while his younger brother had died in a road mishap two years ago. He is survived by a son and a daughter.

Reportedly, the deceased jawan’s mortal remains will be flown from Meghalaya to Bhubaneswar today evening.

Notably, last month, Odisha had lost one of its brave sons in the form of Army jawan Saroj Kumar Das who attained martyrdom in the flash flood in the Teesta River of Lachen Valley due to a sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim last month.

Das was a resident of Kendudhipa under the Kamakhyanagar block of Dhenkanal district. He along with 22 other Army personnel had gone missing following the flash flood.
