Nursing staff on strike
With the nursing staff of state-run hospitals and healthcare centres in Odisha continuing their cease-work strike despite the imposition of ESMA, its ripple effects were felt at the Jagatsinghpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) where the patient care services were badly affected.
Demanding fulfilment of their 10-point charter of demands that includes regularisation of contractual workers and scrapping of outsourcing, the nurses had launched a two-day long agitation from Wednesday while providing emergency services.
However, they launched their cease-work strike from today.

When contacted, the Jagatsinghpur CDMO said the healthcare service is being managed by ANM and pharmacists.
Meanwhile, Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling appealed to the agitating nursing staff to join their duties, saying the government is taking their demands seriously and consultations were underway.
“If the government can impose ESMA, why can’t it fulfil our demands? If the government is not cooperating with us, why should we?” asked an agitating nurse officer.
