Eminent Odia actor, movie director, and producer, Chittaranjan Tripathy has been appointed as the new director of the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.

Chittaranjan is the first person from Odisha to hold the prestigious position. He hails from Chandbali area in Bhadrak district. Apart from being an actor, director, and producer, he is also a storyteller, screenplay writer, music director, lyricist, and playback singer.

Chittaranjan has directed Odia movies like ‘Dhauli Express’ and ‘Mukhya Mantri’. He has also acted in many Odia movies. In 2007, ‘Dhauli Express’ received three Odisha State Film Awards.

Apart from Odia movies, Chittaranjan has also acted in many Hindi serials and web series. He gained immense popularity after playing ‘Trivedi’ character in the ‘Sacred Games’ web series on Netflix.

Chittaranjan did his diploma in acting from NSD in 1996 and he is the batchmate of eminent Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

“Chittaranjan has struggled through financial hardships to excel in his career.  He was also the first Odia to be a dramatic secretary in Hyderabad. He was also acting in Odia dramas there. He has completed his post-graduation in drama from London.  With God’s grace and his hard work, he has become the Director of NSD. We all are proud of his success,” said Chittaranjan’s father, Bisambara Tripathy.

Meanwhile, Chittaranjan expressed his pleasure over the development.

“Right now I am completely numb. The challenge for me will be to polish and carry forward the legacy of our great ‘Gurus’ in the institution. I will try to incorporate new training methods for the new students in the field of acting,” said Chittaranjan.

“My journey was pretty tough. Whatever I have achieved today is due to the penance of my father. He always motivates me a lot. Moreover, due to God’s grace and blessing from my spiritual master, I have become the Director of NSD. Struggle is part and parcel of life. My next challenge will be to take forward NSD to the next level in a genuine way. Ollywood stalwarts like Bijay Mohanty, Ajit Das, Samaresh Routray, Manoj Mishra and Narayan Prati are former students of NSD. NSD students have always performed well in Bollywood and other film industries. I will try my best to motivate the students and continue the legacy of the institution,” he added.
