The Odisha unit of Congress party on Wednesday trained its guns on the ruling BJD over ‘large-scale irregularities’ in Jaga Mission, a programme by the Naveen Patnaik-led government to upgrade around 3,000 slums across the State.

Launching a scathing attack on the ruling BJD government, the grand old party alleged that instead of the actual beneficiaries, the conch party workers are being provided with the land under the programme.

While the then UPA government had rolled out Rajiv Awas Yojana to provide houses to beneficiaries, the same has been changed to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana after BJP came to power at the Centre, the Congress party alleged.

Speaking to the media, Congress leader Bijay Patnaik said, "BJD workers are getting land instead of actual beneficiaries. People having two-storey buildings and sweet stalls are included in the new list.”

“People with good sources of income are also there in the new list. In order to avoid being exposed, the list was published on March 11 and only two days including Sunday were given to file complaints. How can a common man lodge the grievance within these two days," Patnaik questioned.

Furthermore, he said, “The beneficiaries’ list has been prepared with an ill-motive. So, we demand to cancel the list immediately.”

However, no comments from the ruling BJD and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation could be obtained over the allegations of the Congress party.
