At least 10 councilors brought a 'no confidence' motion against the Nilagiri BJD Notified Area Council (NAC) chairperson Ambika Das in Balasore district on Friday.
The no-confidence motion was brought against Ambika Das while accusing her of indulging in various irregularities.
According to sources, there are 13 councilors in Nilagiri NAC. The councilors had filed a complaint with the Balasore District Collector following which the Collector scheduled the no-confidence vote for today i.e. September 27.
Out of the 13 councillors, one of them abstained from voting while two others remained absent. The remaining 10 councilors voted in favour of the ‘no confidence’ motion against Ambika.
Ambika, who has been holding the post for the last two years, has been accused of negligence in duty and adopting a partisan approach towards different wards. Now, BJP aims to capture the chairperson’s post.
Reportedly, Santosh Khatua, who was 'ignored' by the BJD a few months ago, has now become a major cause of headache for the Naveen Patnaik-led regional party in Nilgiri.
As per the latest reports, Ambika lost the confidence vote. The official announcement is expected to be made soon.
Worth mentioning, earlier a no-confidence motion was passed against BJP Junagarh NAC Chairman Mukesh Agarwal. With a total 12 members in Junagarh NAC, Vice chairman Himadri Nayak and 9 councilors voted for the no-confidence motion, thus the motion was passed with a 2/3rd majority.
Similarly, a 'no confidence' motion was also moved against BJD's Nimapara NAC chairperson in August this year. At least 8 councilors had brought the motion against the chairperson.
