The scenes of helpless residents as well as patients in several remote parts of Odisha crossing swelling rivers using various means to reach hospitals owing to the absence of bridges have now become quite common. The situation gets more acute during peak monsoon season.

In one such instance, a patient was taken to a hospital by crossing the river with the help of an inflated tyre tube. The incident has been reported from Kubermunda village under Mahasinga panchayat in Kandhamal district. As per reports, the female patient, identified as Ananti Pradhan, was suffering from vomiting and lose motions for the past four days.

The family members decided to rush her to the hospital after her condition deteriorated yesterday. Sources said that Ananti’s husband and others decided to shift her to the hospital by making her cross the Khadga river using a tube to reach Sainpada as there is no bridge in the area.

From there, she was subsequently taken in an ambulance and admitted to Baliguda hospital.

Local residents said that due to the absence of a bridge over Khadga river, the Kubermunda village gets cut off from the rest parts during the rainy season.
