In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman delivered twins alongside the highway due to the alleged unavailability of an ambulance to ferry her to a hospital. The incident has been reported from Kumuda village under Titlagarh police limits in Odisha’s Bolangir district.
Fortunately, both the woman and her twins are safe.
According to sources, family members of the woman, Bindiya Sabar, called for an ambulance after she experienced labour pain. However, their efforts to get an ambulance went in vain as no one responded to their requests.
Left with no other option, the woman’s family hired an auto-rickshaw and tried to take her to the hospital. However, on the way to the hospital, her labour pain increased and the family members had to create a makeshift tent on the highway and help her deliver the twins.
Shockingly, there were no Anganwadi or ASHA workers with them during the delivery. The incident has triggered widespread criticism.
“I tried to call an ambulance, but no one showed up. We also tried to call the ASHA worker, but she also did not come with us. With no other option, we were going to the hospital by an auto-rickshaw when the delivery happened,” Bindiya informed.
The health condition of both the mother and her twins was stable at the time of filing of this report. No comments have been received from the administration on the matter.
